That kind of friend

I have this friend. She is my friend from forever, pretty much. We grew up a few blocks apart, went to the same elementary school and junior high, became friends with each other's friends in high school and college, and were roommates for a year after graduation. That kind of friend.

I've already blogged about my eraser-stamp bookplates -- I'm not tremendously artistic, so I get pretty excited when I'm able to make something I actually like. So after I made the bookplates for WHEN YOU REACH ME, my friend said she thought I should make some eraser stamps for FIRST LIGHT. "Yeah," I said, "I should." But I never did.

People, she made some for me (with help from her wonderful and talented daughter, S.)!

And they are so, so beautiful!!

Hi Rebecca,
It's me, Eliana again. I know what you mean when you say that kind of friend. You really don't know what you would do without the person. Sorry by the way if I'm bugging you (or bloggers). Best Wishes, Eliana P.S. I know which restaurant you ate at, though I don't know if I should say the name. If I'm right, it starts with an M and ends with an I. The place has great milkshakes.

By the way, the place I was talking about is in the article from February.

Thanks, Maria-in-Stockholm! How exciting to think that my book has been places I'd love to go myself someday . . .

Eliana, thanks for checking in -- yes, I think it was the place you're thinking of. Now I wish I'd had a shake.

Rebecca, you're right. Those are beautiful. You're friend sounds beautiful, too. Not the kind of outside beauty, but the beautiful that reasurres you when you are sad. The beautiful that gives you hope when all hope is lost. The beautiful that makes impossible jobs possible, permanently. That kind of beautiful.

OMG! I loved your book so much when I read it! I am eleven years old, and I read it for a response, and it is my favourite book ever! Good job Rebecca! ^.^

I have just read first light, and it was great! Well done on both of your books!
