NYC: look down

I was wandering around downtown on Sunday and took some iphone pictures of sidewalk art. It isn't really art, but these random manhole covers and grates always make me feel happy. New York City changes so much that it feels as if my hometown is constantly disappearing on me, but these shapes and patterns have been a part of my life from day one. I hope they don't go away anytime soon.

I'd call is art, Rebecca. If you have an emotional reaction to it, and if you present it through the lens of your unique eye, it's an artform in my mind. Writers need to be observant, even in the "small," ordinary things that surround us. Obviously you're living the writer's life. :)

I wish I could go to NYC someday and see the special manhole covers on the sidewalk. I would call it "sidewalk art" too. Don't worry you're not alone.
