I'll be at the Brooklyn Book Festival this Sunday!!

To learn all about this pretty-incredible gathering of writers, click here.

For the fabulous kid-lit events, click here.

My panel, moderated by my wonderful editor, is at the "Youth Stoop" at noon.
Here's the official panel description:

Concrete Jungle Where Dreams Are Made:
Laura Toffler-Corrie (The Life and Opinions of Amy Finawitz), Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich (8th Grade Superzero), and 2009 Newbery Award winner Rebecca Stead (When You Reach Me)bring us relatable, inspiring characters embracing challenges with friendships and popularity—while trying to solve a mystery or two—set against very different New York landscapes. Moderated by Wendy Lamb.

Hope to see you there! even if it rains.

Rebecca,
Sorry, but I don't live in Brooklyn! I'm not going to give out where I live though, cuz that wouldn't be safe. I would definitely come, though, if I did live there! You are no doubt one of my favorite authors and that is never going to change. Someday soon, I plan to read First Light. See, right now, I'm on a book hunt. I've never worked this hard finding the good middle-school level books before. 'Til I read First Light, I'll never stop wanting to read more from you.

Hey, thanks for this terrific note!

PS Have you read HOLES, WALK TWO MOONS, CHAINS, or THE MYSTERIOUS BENEDICT SOCIETY? All great MG books!

Alison and Hailey -

thanks for writing, I'm happy to hear that my books found their way to you!

I can't think of any general life-advice at the moment . . . but if you think of a specific question, email me!

thank you so much for replying! I have 1 question. How long did it take to write, edit, publish, and sell when you reach me?

Alison, it took close to a year to write the book and then several months to revise it with my editor. From the time the book was officially "finished" (meaning revised and copy-edited), it was another year or so until it was actually published.

Rebecca, sorry I didn't respond earlier! Thanks so much for giving me some good ideas for books! I am like going crazy at the library. I think the librarians are getting sick of me. That's probably true, because I've read pretty much every book at the library. Funny, though, I haven't read those books you've suggested. I'll find them as soon as possible!
