Goodbye Stranger

Goodbye Stranger is officially published today! It's been a long wait, and I am crazily indebted to the family members, friends, and widely scattered, much loved "book people" who have supported me, and this book, for the past three-ish years.

This morning my mom left hydrangeas and a tuna noodle casserole at my apartment door. The day is made.

Congratulations! It must feel so good. Your book Liar and Spy inspired me to start reading new children's fiction again and I'm really looking forward to this one.

Rebecca,
I heard you on NPR ... well, actually I heard this lady talking and I thought, Who is this really swell person? Then the host said that it was you, but that you were done talking, which sucked, but then when I got home, your book was waiting for me!

The prologue is delicious! Can't wait to finish!

Congratulations all the way around!

My daughter and my sister finished your book about a week ago and insisted that I read it. Just finished it and had to reach out to you. Congratulations!!! What a beautiful story. Both my daughter and I can relate and what amazing conversations we are having. Be proud and cheers to you!! Thank you, Tricia Dailey

Yay, I am so excited to find out you have a new book out! I have a ten year old daughter, also named Rebecca, who will also be very excited. We have both read your three previous books and loved them. Rebecca (my daughter) thinks all three of them should have won the Newbery. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world.

Dear Rebecca,

As a longtime fan of your work, I am fully enjoying Goodbye Stranger! When I read the chapter, Dollar-Eight, I had to find a way to reach you. I was so very delighted by your subtle nod to Ella in All-of-a-Kind Family Uptown and the time she nervously ordered a cream cheese sandwich. As a member and Past Chair of the Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee, my heart is always warmed to know the lasting impact of All-of-a-Kind Family on readers. Just wanted you to know I noticed!

All best,

A very belated thank you to all of you generous people!! These are really wonderful and encouraging notes.

And Barbara, I loved All-of-a-Kind Family books as a kid, and watched my son fall in love with them many years later. Those stories will be with me until the end. . .
